Maitland P. Simmons Summer Institute Memories.

Maitland P. Simmons was president of NJSTA from 1954-1955. Please see the retrospective for a reflection on Maitland.

Upon the passing of his wife, Maitland  left a bequest to NJSTA for scholarships.  These scholarships were to be designated as "The Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award."

The Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Committee was formed for educational and charitable purposes for the furtherance of science education through scholarship grants to science teachers in the State of New Jersey.

The Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Committee developed and now sponsors the annual Maitland P. Simmons Summer Institute to provide professional development for science teachers. The Institute is supported by the Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award Scholarship Fund of NJSTA which covers all costs for NJSTA members.

Watch for information about the next Maitland P. Simmons Summer Institute!
