​NJSTA Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award

2020 Summer Institute

As the state’s largest education organization dedicated to the teaching and learning of science, NJSTA was very disappointed that we were unable to provide a Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award Summer Institute for the first time since 2005 when the first Institute was held.  Applicants selected to participate in the 2020 NJSTA Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award Summer Institute which was cancelled due to Covid-19 Pandemic, were granted a  1-year dual membership to NJSTA/NSTA.  We believe that the national level professional development resources available through NSTA including their NSTA Learning Center compliment the local ones that NJSTA offers and hope that Scholars will find both member websites support their efforts by providing beneficial Distance Learning and curricular resources.  Additionally, 2020 Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award Scholars are also being granted complimentary admission to the New Jersey Science Convention Virtual 2020 scheduled for 8 days: October 17 & 18, November 14 & 15, January 9 & 10,  February 6 & 7.  The members of the NJSTA Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award Committee are thoughtfully exploring options for our next event and will provide an update once a final decision has been made.
