If you're a teacher looking to strengthen your understanding of the NGSS, or someone ready to explore OpenSciEd and the NJSLA-Science, these workshops are designed to support your professional growth in science education.

Science Standards Versus Engineering Standards, Is There a Difference?

New Jersey mandated the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for grades 6-8 in September 2016 and for grades K-5 in September 2017. These standards include the often- ignored engineering design standards. Are these engineering standards absent from your classroom because you are unaware of them? Would a comprehensive review of the NGSS and an introduction to the engineering standards benefit your instructional practice and fulfill New Jersey’s mandate of “All students, all standards.” If so, this workshop is for you.

This interactive six-hour workshop will include a detailed review of the principles of the NGSS and an introduction to the engineering design standards supported by activities that distinguish between science and engineering. Participants will receive resources in the form of handouts, classroom-ready activities, and websites.
