Rutgers Center for Mathematics, Science and Computer Education is offering Summer Enrichment Academies for Middle and High School Students.
Middle & High School: Honors Design Thinking Summer Academy
Design • Engineer • Prototype
This intensive 5-day honors academy immerses middle and high school students in the engineering design process, from identifying real-world problems to designing, building, testing, and presenting innovative solutions. Students explore human-centered design, systems thinking, and creative problem-solving while working in collaborative teams.
Using professional tools and maker technologies—CAD, 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, and microcontrollers—students transform ideas into functional prototypes. Throughout the week, students document their process and create a STEM-focused digital portfolio showcasing design thinking, iteration, and technical skills.
The academy culminates in formal presentations, where students communicate their design decisions, constraints, and impact—building confidence and college- and career-ready engineering skills.
