NJSTA is looking forward to honoring those that contribute to our organization at the Annual Spring Meeting held in May.  If you know of some one who fits the following criteria you may complete the nomination survey when award nominations are open.

Recognition includes attendance at the Spring meeting with a guest, a plaque, paper weight or scroll, recognition at the meeting and in our monthly newsletter.

The NJSTA Citation Scroll is awarded to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to science and/or science education. This often includes local, state and national contributions.

The Fellows Award was established to recognize an individual who gives to the association of their time and talent to a degree not normally expected of them.

The Atkins Award was named for Pauline McDowell Atkins who became the first woman president of NJSTA in 1924 and who was a leader in the development of science education throughout NJ.  The Award, established in 1948, recognizes “outstanding cooperation with and service to the science teachers of the state of NJ”.  Over the years that the award has been presented, representatives of many major New Jersey companies have received the award.

John Petix, a former NJSTA president, Fellow and Citation Scroll recipient, was an ardent supporter of NJSTA well after his presidential term was finished.  Edythe, his wife and a math department chair, provided much behind the scenes support for John, hence the title PETIX Supporter of Science Award. The Petix Award shall be awarded to non-members of NJSTA for extraordinary support and contribution to NJSTA.

NSTA has also instituted a Special Award (s) to an individual who has demonstrated a particular talent in the field of science that benefits the students of New Jersey.
